I was watching Jewel singing a song on TV. While she was pouring her heart out singing a beautiful song, my mind says "I wonder what kind of guitar she's playing?". It was at that moment I then said to myself, "what do you care what kind of guitar it is? You should be paying attention to the song and not the guitar!". I then started to think about the phrase "what do you care?" and about all the trivial things people get so upset about, while massive attrocities occur without any care at all.

So I grabbed a pen and paper and wrote "do you care what it is I have to say? Do you care what kind of guitar I play?" and I continued writng the rest of the song. The words came quickly and I wound up with so many verses that I had to cut most of them or else this song would be 10 minutes long, LOL!

The music is based on a little tapping riff I was playing around with, which became a perfect bed for the verses. The chorus is a series of ascending chords with a descending melody creating contrary motion.

I played a G&L ASAT Classic through a Tone King Comet 40 amp for the clean tapping parts of the verses. The choruses and solo were played through my '79 Marshall head.

ENJOY!
