The Gruuve is a 3 piece band from the AK Valley area. The band focuses on blues, classic rock, soul and a little bit of country. They provide very strong vocals with 3 part harmony on most songs.
This night, I am filling in for band member Jeff Conner, and excellent guitarist and vocalist. Some big shoes to fill for sure and I’m thrilled to be invited as his substitute for the evening. No vocals from me so I’ll concentrate on getting things right on guitar!
I’ve been sitting in with the band every Monday since February at an open stage they host in Natrona Heights at The Do Drop Inn from 7:30-10:30 and have become quite familiar with their material. I look forward to the Monday Jam and enjoy playing with these guys as it’s a change from my usual country gigging.

On drums is Dave Wells. He’s a solid rock and blues drummer with a powerful, soulful voice. He can sing a wide variety of songs and genre’s from blues “growlers” to sentimental love songs. Additionally, he’s a great harmony singer!
Mike Huston is the bass player. Mike plays some nice bass runs and does a lot of singing, both lead and harmony. He’s very versatile both vocally and instrumentally. Mike plays keyboards, bass, acoustic guitar and even some banjo, but he’s strictly bass with this band. On any given night you’ll hear Mike sing songs from the Beatles, Doors, Bob Dylan, Albert King and even classic country by Alabama or Merle Haggard!
I really enjoy filling in with different bands and look forward to this venue and The Gruuve. Stop out and see us, there’s no cover! Grab a sandwich and a coffee and enjoy the music.
Be sure to keep Monday in mind too, at The Do Drop Inn, Natrona Heights for the open jam session! If you play, bring your instrument and join in the fun! Check out some more video of our open stage on YouTube.
